Orphan Ministry
Pure Religion—Visiting the Fatherless
Some of the Russian orphans whose care and upbringing have been entrusted to IBLP by the Moscow Department of Education
The Institute in Basic Life Principles desires to serve government leaders and help them be successful. One exciting avenue of service involves caring for the homeless and orphaned children of other nations. This commitment to making a difference in the lives of these children was expanded in 1994, when the Moscow Department of Education asked IBLP to begin caring for their orphans.
The Moscow Training Center
The volunteer students and families who have committed to serve these orphans live at the Moscow Training Center, a five-acre campus with three buildings. These volunteers care for orphans and participate in many ministry outreaches.
Orphans live in a family setting with a volunteer family—a safe environment with positive role models. These families are supported by volunteer students who are trained to be attentive to the emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical needs of each orphan. Along with their regular schooling, the orphans are taught basic universal principles of life and character, providing many with a new outlook on life.
Pasha and his friend Lindsey
As government leaders witness the transformation of these orphans’ lives, they become enthusiastic about the work of the Institute. One such transformation was observed in Pasha, a young orphan boy. Early in Pasha’s life, his father taught him to steal and to lie. The Moscow authorities assigned him to the Moscow Training Center when he was nine years old.
At the training center, he saw character modeled by young people who had dedicated their school year to teaching English in the public schools of Moscow and serving the government of Russia in orphanages and prisons. Their commitment to character and sacrificial service led Pasha to make dramatic changes in his actions and attitudes.
The International Home for Children
The International Home for Children (IHC) is located just south of Indianapolis. This property, which consists of a former county hospital situated on 26 acres of land, was made available to the Institute for the purpose of broadening the work with orphans. In order to serve a greater number of children, the IHC is staffed by supervising families who oversee three to six student leaders. Each student leader has one to three orphans assigned to his or her care. The supervising family guides the student leaders and helps care for the needs of the children.
A Growing Outreach
As other nations have heard of the fantastic results in Moscow, they have invited IBLP to begin caring for orphans in their nations. Volunteer students serving in Bucharest, Romania, visit orphanages and the homeless and abandoned children who live on the streets. The Institute has been asked to work with the 100,000 street children in Romania and assist other nations in searching for a solution for the training and care of their fatherless children. In 2004, IBLP hosted groups of orphans from Mexico and the Philippines.
Practicing True Religion
The assistance IBLP offers to world leaders would be impossible without the dedication of our volunteer student and family staff. Their commitment to character and service enables IBLP to support the work with orphans and fatherless children.
