Having fun with the kids

¡Buenos dias from Simojovel—“the JUNGLE”! It has turned out to not be quite as much jungle as we expected—no boa constrictors, no tents, no warm water, and no mosquitoes the size of VW beetles!

We arrived at the Bible college on Sunday night and unloaded four vehicles and two trailers full of food, mattresses, tables, and chairs—not to mention all of our luggage! A crowd of people gathered to watch the “gringos” unload, and a few Indians helped us.

The men enjoy the skits too

Monday morning we gathered for a time of Bible study and testimony preparation. With very few clues of how it was all going to come together, we prayed over a tentative schedule and started that afternoon at 3:30. We did one skit, and a few of the guys shared their testimonies with the group of men, women, children, babies, and dogs. We later split into two groups; the men stayed to watch the DVD on design, and we took the ladies and children outside to a little hut where we did a Children’s Institute-style program with the whole group. We went until about 9 P.M. and were exhausted.

The next day we split the sessions up into two time slots. Here’s the schedule we are planning follow for the rest of the week:

Leah with a bunch of her new friends

8:10–8:40—Devotions
8:40–10—Breakfast
10–11—Testimony preparation
11–2—Basic Seminar and Children’s Institute
2:30—Lunch
3–4:30—Prep time and free time
4:30–7:30—Basic Seminar and Children’s Institute
7:30–8—Chatting with people, playing with the children
8—Dinner
10:30—Bedtime

This still involves six hours of teaching each day, but it gives us time in between to take a nap and do more planning.
