How Journey Works
The individuals attending the Journey begin at IBLP headquarters in Oakbrook IL. At the Headquarters, young people who are seeking the Lord work and serve to further God's kingdom, under godly teaching and leadership. While the Journey attendees are here, they receive teaching and training that will help them understand how to get through issues and struggles that are hindering their potential for God. Issues such as past hurts, lies that bind us, fears that cripple us, family conflict, guilt, sins that are hidden away, or just doubt about who God is and if He is really loving.
The entire group is separated into teams of ten attendees, with a leader for each team who is there to help and encourage them as they seek the Lord.
After those days of preparation, they will travel up to the Northwoods of MI, where the Journey really takes place. The Northwoods conference center is nestled in a breathtaking piece of God's creation, and it's remoteness, makes the time away so much more effective, as normal distractions are left behind.
While in the Northwoods they study through material which reveals 18 heart conditions from the Bible, both good, and bad. The purpose of this is to help root out issues, blind spots, or sins that are keeping each individual from surrendering to God and experiencing His love, grace, and victory. They also watch powerful messages and testimonies that point out who God is, and how we can know Him more, and trust Him fully.
There is a good amount of alone time, where each individual can have it out with God on their own, learning to recognize His voice, and learning to share their hearts with Him. During the week there is a special day of fasting and prayer. We call it "The Day of Delighting In the Lord." Some people are not thrilled at the prospect of fasting, but when it is approached with a desire to hear from God, and a yearning to know Him more, it can be an amazing time of experiencing God's presence and reality.
There are fun activities that go on, including volleyball, kayaking, and other exciting things. But this is far from being a priority.
At the end of the week the group returns to IBLP Headquarters, where they receive follow up training that will help them prepare to carry on what God has shown them even after they return home. This time away will only have an impact, if the person coming decides that they are going to choose God no matter what. We cannot promise results, we can only give you the opportunity. The rest is up to you.
