The 2017 Southern ALERT Cadet Leadership Training Corps (LTC) Camp was held in Big Sandy, TX, September 19-23. Nine fathers and sons gathered for the camp, and this year’s theme was “Rise Up, Men of God.” Cadet LTCs and their fathers received teaching about growing to maturity in Christ based on Colossians 3:1-17.

To help the participants learn practical ways to love and serve others, the Cadet fathers and LTCs were engaged in training in many first responder skills. They learned much from the ALERT men who were teaching them, including skills such as: search and rescue, sawyer work, emergency first aid, and deep water safety and rescue. Classes and mock scenarios were held throughout the week so the men and sons could practice developing these skills. The final day of the camp consisted of an 11-hour emergency scenario simulation that required the men to demonstrate self-sacrificing love and use their new skills to aid helpless “victims.” Both participants and staff renewed their knowledge and skills, learned new skills, and, most importantly, gained more understanding about the call in Christ to rise up as men of God!

ALERT Cadet is a “toolbox” to assist fathers in turning their hearts to their sons and leading their sons into Biblical manhood. One of the greatest benefits of the ALERT Cadet program is the opportunity for fathers to spend one-on-one time with their sons. To learn more about the ALERT Cadet program, visit alertcadet.org.
