February Family Week in Big Sandy, Texas!

March 7, 2017

Families gathered at the International ALERT Academy Campus on February 19-26th for the first Family Week of the year in Big Sandy, Texas. The families came from near and far for a special time of fellowship and service. Some families traveled from as far away as Pennsylvania and Minnesota. They were excited about the opportunity to serve alongside the staff here at Big Sandy.

Mornings and part of the afternoons were spent with families working alongside staff, assisting with various projects on campus. Some of the young men and their dads worked hard scraping, priming, and painting a portion of the white fence that borders the ALERT campus. Mothers and daughters worked diligently, getting the Pine Lodge cleaned up and ready for the upcoming Family Conference in April. The younger boys learned why the Pine Lodge Cabins are so named as they raked up trailer loads of pine needles and pine cones around the cabins.

The theme for this February Family Week was “Heroes of Faith.” Several afternoons and evenings we enjoyed videos or live presentations with powerful testimonies of God working in the lives of men and women. In four sessions families heard the amazing testimony of Darlene Deibler Rose and her mission work in Papua New Guinea. Other video sessions included the encouraging story of George Mueller and his trust in God to provide his needs, the inspiring account of Olympian Eric Liddell’s life, and also the amazing history of Amy Carmichael and the Dohnavur Fellowship. Live messages were given by Bob Newhouse, founder of TEACH Institute (Teaching Effective Academics and Character at Home), and by Rick Warner, who was a missionary to Mongolia.

One participating parent shared that her oldest son did not want to come to Family Week and for the first couple of days he was not happy about being there. However, God worked in his heart during the family’s time at the campus, and his perspective and attitude changed. His mother joyfully expressed gratefulness for his changed attitude. The IBLP staff team was greatly encouraged to see the hard work, dedication, and love for the Lord shown by these families during Family Week. Everyone enjoyed fellowship while working on the various projects.

Another Family Week is on the calendar! It is scheduled for April 30-May 6, immediately following the Big Sandy Family Conference (April 25-29). We hope to see you there! To learn more about Family Week or to register please visit: familyconferences.org/family-week
