Big Sandy Conference Held in New Venue

May 14, 2019

The theme for the 2019 Family Conferences is “Seek Ye the Lord,” taken from Isaiah 55:6. More than 1,500 men, women, and children from around the country gathered in Big Sandy, Texas, for the Family Conference held April 29–May 4.

The Big Sandy April conference was held in a new facility this year. Instead of meeting in the Convention Center as in years past, the general sessions took place in the air-conditioned Field House. Many people commented on the comfort of the new location.

Several speakers who gave messages during the conference were long-time favorites. Other speakers were quickly and warmly received by the audience. David Gibbs, Jr., was enjoyed by all, as were Otto Koning and Tim Lee. Missionary Ben Sinclair shared the testimony of his friend and colleague, the late Charles Wesco, who was killed after being on the mission field less than one month. Bill Fay gave practical ways to share the Gospel with non-believers, without fear of rejection. Aaron Baker reminded attendees of a forgotten communicator—music. He also spoke to the students about the Biblical foundation for relationships. Other speakers included S. M. Davis, Peter Magnuson, and Jim Bob and Michele Duggar.

A new resource announced at the conference proved to be a welcome addition to the host of IBLP publications. To commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the original Pineapple Story, a new docu-drama and book are available now for purchase! Episode one, The Dutch Boy Story, is available at store.iblp.org. In The Dutch Boy Story, Otto Koning recounts the fear and uncertainty of growing up in war-torn Holland. A harrowing transatlantic journey only added to his fear and doubts. Years later and after settling in Canada with his family, Otto heard the life-changing Truth that would calm his fears and settle his heart.

One mom said of the conferences, “We were brought here as guests of another family seven years ago, and it meant so much to my children and me that we have not missed a family conference or family camp since.” A young man shared, “I was so amazed how the Lord brought Brother Ben Sinclair to share that powerful testimony. The messages by David Gibbs, Otto Koning, and Peter Magnuson were exactly what I needed to hear.” One father who regularly attends the conferences stated that the highlight of his week was spending the afternoon with his son in the ALERT Cadet Advanced Challenge. What a privilege to see the hearts of fathers turning to their sons, and sons turning to their fathers!
