Giving the World a "New" Approach to Life!

Young Men Seek the Lord Together

In Jeremiah 29:13 we read: “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” The twenty young men and leaders who attended this recent Guys Journey found that God held true to His promise. As these young men sought the Lord, He was found by them!

The Journey took place in the scenic, serene Northwoods of Michigan, June 26–24. The first day the group focused on the reality that, apart from the Lord, we can do nothing, and that the power to live the Christian life only comes by Christ living in and through us. One young man on the Journey later shared concerning this truth: “The biggest thing that stuck out to me [on the Journey] was how we don't have the strength to do anything in the Christian life ourselves. . . . [The Lord] has to do all of it in us. . . .”

In the days that followed, the Journey group talked a lot about how to have a relationship with God through meditating on His Word. It was thrilling to see these young men, ages ranging from almost thirteen to thirty, digging into God’s Word and meditating on it. Many of the men bore witness at the end of the week to the life-changing power of Biblical meditation.

Journey participants also studied the topics of bitterness and forgiveness. Spiritual breakthroughs occurred as the men found freedom from bitterness by forgiving their offenders and beginning to allow the Lord to heal deep wounds. Another topic was the importance of bringing hidden sin into the light so that the Lord can deal with it. As these young men sought the Lord and confessed to their authorities about secret sins, they found even more freedom in their relationship with God.

At the cross the Lord did not just set us free from the penalty of sin—He also set us free from the power of sin in our lives. As this liberating truth was discussed on the Journey, God was showing the young men the freedom He had already won for them on the cross. One young man who was experiencing newfound freedom said it well: “God already gave me freedom 2000 years ago. I am just agreeing with what He has said in His Word and I am just walking in the freedom He has given me!” Praise God that he who the Son sets free is free indeed!
