How can I maximize my home’s potential to be a health center?

Harmonious family relationships and an orderly home significantly increase the health of family members. When illness does occur, a caring family speeds recovery and eases the pain of illness.

Applying the following factors in your home can greatly impact your health and productivity:

  • Positive Attitudes

    The home should be a place of accountability for good attitudes, especially those of forgiveness and responsibility. If these qualities are not nurtured, bitterness and guilt will develop and act as poisons in the physical system, producing medical, psychological, and spiritual problems.

  • Orderly Living Spaces

    Clutter has an incredible impact on mental health. When adults and children dispose of unnecessary items and commit to having a place for everything and putting everything in its place, the home becomes a much more welcoming, peaceful place.

  • Nutritious Meals

    Well-balanced meals increase the health of the family, resulting in fewer medical bills. Take time to plan and prepare good meals as an investment in your future!

  • Consistent Exercise

    Our bodies need the stimulation of exercise. Walking or jogging in your neighborhood or investing in home exercise equipment eliminates gym membership fees and the expense of transportation. It also allows you to enjoy exercise time with family members, building accountability and interaction as you work out together.

  • Responsible Fasting

    Fasting brings significant benefits, such as the elimination of dangerous toxins in the body and an increase in spiritual and physical alertness. Before entering into a fast, it is wise to check with a physician who is knowledgeable about fasts and is familiar with your medical history.

  • Wise Dental Care

    There would be little or no need for repairing tooth decay and treating gum disease if proper eating and cleaning practices were maintained. Dentists affirm that when teeth are brushed within twenty minutes of eating a meal, cavity-forming bacteria are cleansed away.

  • Home Safety and First Aid

    A parent’s watchful eye and the careful training of children will help your family avoid accidents. However, first-aid procedures should be learned and then applied if accidents do happen.

  • Medical Treatment

    The maintenance of sanitary conditions is a constant challenge in clinics and hospitals. Whenever possible, the home should be considered as the location of choice for medical treatment and recovery.

  • Believing Prayer

    When a family member has a serious medical need, follow the admonition of James 5:14–16 to call for the elders of the church and pray for healing: “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

    This time of prayer does not necessarily replace the need for professional medical treatment, but it does help those in need set their focus on God and receive support from the Body of Christ.

  • Care for Elderly Parents

    Opening your home to elderly family members is a worthwhile investment. This arrangement enables you to protect loved ones from the harm of neglect or abuse outside the home. It also offers the opportunity to deepen family ties, grow in character, and gain valuable insights about the value of life. Relatives can be drawn together for prayer and counsel if a family member’s needs become more critical and other care arrangements become necessary.
