Sound Foundations 2020

Our concert was cancelled — we recorded an album instead.

Hello! We’re the Sound Foundations Class of 2020.

A group of young musicians from all over the United States who came together to study music in East Texas. In any other year, our course would have culminated in a beautiful concert for hundreds of guests. But this year, during COVID-19, live concerts for large audiences just weren’t an option. And so, when our concert had to be canceled, God provided us with a new vision: to record an album that we could bring home to our families and friends that could not join us for the concert.

Let the rehearsals begin

As students, this change meant we had a lot of work to do! Every day, between our classes and homework sessions, we spent several hours practicing. We had an intense program of Handel, Mendelssohn, Brahms, and music by the English composer, Sir John Stainer.

Preparing the repertoire for a recording session is a project that should have taken months, but we had just 12 days! Though it seemed impossible, we also knew that the God we serve delights in doing impossible things. In those 12 days, God did exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think!

A world-class stage

God opened the door for us to record our concert at one of East Texas’ most renowned auditoriums: Le Tourneau University’s Belcher Center. After an incredible sequence of events we walked on stage — a stage built for world-class artists.

We only had a couple of hours to record our concert music, with very little margin for re-recording any of the tracks. So we prayed, then we began. Together, for three hours, we sang and we played until we couldn’t sing or play anymore. At the end of the night, we knew we had done our best, having worked heartily as unto the Lord!

Where you come in

The recording of the concert is finished — but the project itself is not! God provided us with a venue, a sound engineer, and the capacity to complete the recording of this project in an incredibly short timeframe.

But there is more to do, and we need your help. For the next part of the project — finishing post-production on the album and getting it into the hands of others—that’s where you come in!

Why you should get involved

We believe that music is a powerful tool that we can use to proclaim truth, display beauty, and most of all, glorify the God Who created it. Sound Foundations is on a mission to equip young musicians to serve the Lord with excellence. So this is about more than just finishing an album that came about during COVID-19.

As you join us on this project, you equip us to do more. With your support, we can finish the album and share it with others. And if we go further than just finishing the album, we can take the proceeds from this project and help more students come to Sound Foundations.

If you’re passionate about this too, then you can join with us in one of several ways (see below):
