“Trust in the Lord” was the theme of this year’s Big Sandy Family Conference. Many families heard life-changing messages, enjoyed heartwarming fellowship, and attended the available practical workshops. Also, there were new speakers, such as Tim Tomlinson and Scott Pauley, who joined the line-up of others who are long-time favorites. One person who has attended Family Conferences for many years stated, “The conference last week was truly a blessing for me, and I know for so many others. The theme for this year really ‘hit the spot’ in my life: always learning to trust the Lord more each day!” Another family stated, “This was our fourth conference and is truly a blessing!”

On Wednesday morning, we received word that a father from Canada passed away during the night following a seizure, leaving behind his wife and eleven of his twelve children who were at the conference. The family was staying in a local hotel. This news set a serious tone for many to recognize how important it is to trust in the Lord in every area of our lives, including our families and our relationships. The grieving family was blessed by the prayers, generosity, and support of families who lovingly came around them during this time of need.

God blessed the entire week with a wide range of weather. Sometimes it was as cool as the mid-40s, and other times it was over 90 degrees. On Wednesday, the rain held off long enough for people to be dismissed from the session before a deluge of rain pounded the Convention Center roof. Had it been thirty minutes sooner, the sound would have drowned out the speaker’s microphone. On Saturday evening, a tornado passed only 30 miles away from the Big Sandy Campus. The ALERT men were deployed and cleared roads, allowing emergency vehicles to get through to render aid. We thank God for His safety!
