A Life-Changing Week!

August 12, 2021

Praise the Lord for the work that He did in the 20 young men and leaders that participated in the Young Men’s Journey to the Heart July 10–18. This Journey, held in Big Sandy, Texas, was a powerful time of seeing the Lord work in the lives and hearts of the guys that attended. On the evening of the first full day of the Journey, the team watched an impactful message on humility and a clear conscience. One of the young men contacted his family after the message to pursue reconciliation with his siblings.

One of the topics covered on the Journey was the life changing importance and power of meditating upon the Word of God. Not only was the importance of meditation highlighted during the Journey, but it was also explained practically. Many of the guys testified that this was a key truth for them. A lot of them had heard they were supposed to meditate on the Bible but most did not know how to do it. It was exciting to see this generation of young men digging into the riches of Scripture by meditating upon the Word.

In the middle of the week, the topic of dealing with hidden sin was addressed. One of the teams looked at the life of Achan in light of the truth of James 1:15 which reads: “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” Achan coveted the riches of Jericho that he was not supposed to take. This lust ultimately led him to commit the sin of taking the forbidden stuff. The consequences of this sin ended up being death. In the evening after covering this topic, the guys watched a message on dealing with hidden sin. After the message there was a powerful time of confession and prayer that lasted well into the evening.

Later in the Journey, a special speaker shared on the importance of surrender from the life of Jacob. This message had a great impact on those that heard it as they were challenged to choose to seek the Lord with their whole heart and surrender all to Him. During the testimony sharing time at the end of the week, one of the Journey attendees testified to the great work God had done in his life. This young man indicated that God had used the week of Journey to change his life and that he was going home a changed person! Praise the Lord!

During the free time on the Journey, the guys enjoyed fishing on Lake Loma. One of the young guys particularly enjoyed fishing, so early in the morning on the last full day of the Journey, one of the leaders took him out in a canoe to try to catch a big bass. The leader prayed that the Lord would provide them with some big fish. They had only caught a few small bass and were on their way back in the canoe and fishing along the way when the Journey attendee suddenly had a bass grab his lure and his rod bent under the weight of this big fish as it fought. Much to the thrill of the Journey attendee, this largemouth bass weighed in at over 5 pounds!
