Keith Daniel has been a beloved speaker at a number of our Family Conferences over the years, and we were looking forward to having him speak at our Northwoods Fall Family Conference this year. However, God, in His providence, chose to take Brother Daniel to glory after a battle with COVID-19. Keith Daniel was born in South Africa and marvelously saved by the Lord while in his twenties. Soon after coming to know the Lord, Keith listened to a preacher share and during that message God spoke powerfully to him and called him into full time service for the Lord.
Keith began to travel around living out of a suitcase and boldly preaching the Word of God. At age 32 Keith met his wife-to-be, Jenny, and from the day he met her he was deeply impressed by her godliness and purity. Jenny and Keith married soon after meeting and God worked mightily through these two vessels who were united together for the sake of the kingdom of God. God had a special call on Keith Daniel’s life to bring God’s Word back to His people. Keith followed the exhortation in II Timothy 4:2: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine”. Keith’s messages were filled with Scripture and he would often begin a message by quoting a large passage of Scripture from memory or quoting a number of verses on a given topic.
Keith Daniel declared: “God honors His Word above all things, and he honors those who honor it above all things.” Treasuring and honoring God’s Word above all else was at the heart of Brother Keith’s ministry, and as a result, preaching opportunities opened before him throughout South Africa and abroad. He had the opportunity to share in Scotland alongside Dr. Stephen Olford, a man who Billy Graham declared to be “the greatest expository preacher in the world today.” Keith was asked to preach in Canada, where he carried out a tour of preaching in 30 towns in 31 days. This opened doors for Keith to come and preach in the US, where he returned to carry out preaching tours for more than 20 years.
In 2002, on one of his early US tours, Keith Daniel was invited to speak at IBLP’s ATI Conference in Knoxville. The thousands of attendees at that conference listened with rapt attention as Keith Daniel dynamically quoted the entire Sermon on the Mount (Matthew chapters 5–7). Those who heard this anointed message did not soon forget the call to all believers to turn to the Lord and surrender to Him. Since that message many years ago, Keith Daniel has spoken at various IBLP events over the years, always encouraging and challenging people to go deeper in their relationship with the Lord and saturate their life in His Word.
On what became Keith Daniel’s final tour of the United States, IBLP asked him if he would be willing to share the testimony of God’s working in his life for a Legacy of Faith series. Keith felt the Lord leading him to do this and graciously agreed. We are so grateful that God allowed us to record this powerful testimony of how God saved Keith, called him to preach the Word, and led him all through his life. We had no idea when the documentary was recorded that it would be Keith’s final time in the US before going to be with the Lord. We see God’s sovereign hand was guiding in the timing of the recording of this series. We would encourage your whole family to watch this series and be encouraged to seek the Lord like Keith did.
We know that Keith Daniel would be the first to say that he was simply an earthen vessel through which the Lord was able to work. In a post referring to his dad after he passed, his son Roy summed it up well when he said: “He knew he was a weak earthen vessel. He was nothing enough for God to be much through him. That is so rare.” Keith often exhorted his listeners to seek the Lord for themselves and we know that he would have wanted any tribute about his life to encourage people to seek the Lord with all their heart. Keith Daniel will be greatly missed by his family and friends and all who knew him, but we know the legacy of this godly man will live on through the messages he preached and the lives he impacted.
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them” (Revelation 14:13).
